BRISBANE TURF BOWLS CLUB
Come Play with Us
Brisbane Turf Bowls Club has a long history of sporting excellence and many state champions to its credit. Essentially a social club which promotes friendship, the Brisbane Turf Bowls Club is proud to promote the sport of lawn bowls throughout South East Queensland. Although social bowls is the main focus, we also host competitive tournaments each year. Beginners are always welcome.
ABOUT BRISBANE TURF BOWLS CLUB
Sport played well
The Bowls Club plays about 9 events throughout the year (mostly on Sundays) at venues including New Farm, Boonah, Musgrave Hill, Manly and St Lucia. Our main day of the year is the Gino Merlo Memorial Day of Classic Fours held at New Farm Bowls Club on the 3rd Tuesday in September, sponsored by Merlo Coffee, this event attracts the best bowlers in the Country.
Although the Bowls Club is essentially a social club, we have solid competitive events each year. The first is our Club Pairs Championship played during the course of the year. The second event is the Australian Turf Bowlers’ Carnival involving 9 teams from various States in Australia and a team from Singapore, and it is played in April at a different location each year. This year it was played at Adelaide, and next year it will be played at Double Bay Bowls Club in Sydney. The third event is the Gino Merlo Memorial Day played at New Farm on 17th September, and the fourth event is the Joey Mills Memorial Shield played against Musgrave Hill Bowls Club in November.
The members of our Club include many well known bowlers such as Mark Burns, Norm Broadhurst, Warren Chambers, David Field, Kerry Flint, Mark Greenup, Wayne Homan, Geoff Jensen, Roscoe Ireland, Dean Merlo, Vase Griffith, Garry Ryan, Brett Young, Vince Macdonald, Peter Ramsay, Peter Teitzel, Noel Seawright, Dennis Beitz, Rob Hoskin, Don Woodcroft, Neil Frost, and many others.
